Introduction and first thoughts on IS101

Intro

Hello, I am Alexander and this is my first post. I liked the beginning of the class although I did not have the strongest start. I was traveling for a business trip and visited my mother who lives in Mexico. Sadly I missed our first meet in-person class due to poor planning with my cousin whom I was supposed to drive to Las Vegas, he got busy and I had to wait. Although I missed the first class I am excited about what I will learn and like many of us I believe this is our first time using Blogger, I struggled a lot with making an account but it was kind of funny when I finally figured it out.

Slight Programming Rant

I like programming, although I am very bad at it I've tried a few languages and so far Java is the only one that has stuck with me, maybe because it's the first language I learned. "learned:" being used very loosely since I am not well versed in a lot of the concepts of computer science, I have been taking little projects on and off but I don't have a "flagship" project I have invested a lot of time in yet. During my senior year, I created a very testamentary text editor with code snipping and syntax. I later made a much better version of this project but I just haven't posted it. if you have GitHub, feel free to follow me. If you'd like to have a small coding session together I would be very happy to join.

  1. It's not how you start but how you finish :-)

When I was a college student, I took Visual Basic and COBOL (last semester it was taught at UNLV), programming languages have come a long way!

Welcome to IS101-3003, Fall 2023, Alexander. See you in-person next class session ^_^

  2. Programming languages have always intimidated me. I'm envious that you've gotten so far even though you haven't gotten your "flagship project" yet

  3. As a programmer you must know your way around a computer. Be proud of the fact that you have gotten so far. A lot of people are intimidated by computer language, but not you. I know you will master your craft. Funny how I could not make it to the second class session. I hope to see you in our third class session for the first time, Alexander.

  4. I always compared programming with the way music is written. The fact that both languages represent something deeper and complex. Both languages, can create wonderful things, I think is kind of mysterious and awesome.

  6. I had to take a brief computer science class back in high school and although it was challenging it was fun to learn how to create my own website and how to personalize it as well. Definitely not an easy thing to do but practice makes perfect.

  7. I can agree that the computer language confused me the first couple weeks of class. I can say by the third week of class it's getting slightly easier. I hope you enjoyed your time in Mexico!

  8. My friends and I have a little coding session every Wednesday at our apartment. I would love for you to join us one day! I started learning how to code a little bit before the semester started, but had to stop when it did. I'm still very, very new to coding, but it's something I'm also interested in. I'm excited to find out which language will be my favorite as I've only used the classic C, not even C++ hahaha!

  11. I used to do coding for a few years in school, I had a lot of fun doing it too, I definitely plan on learning more about it in the future.

  12. I remember my computer science class in high school it was fun and even when I wasn't that great in that class, it's still the reason why I'm taking this class.

  14. A bumpy start always makes for a more gratifying finish! I hope it is all smooth sailing from here on out. Programming is way too advanced for me, but I applaud you for your interest in that.
